High-Profile Democrats Hit by Crime Wave: Despite Crisis, Denial Continues in Blue States

In the past week, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass had her official residence burglarized. Rep. Adam Schiff also suffered a theft and Kyle Richard’s daughter’s house was robbed out in broad daylight. The progressive arm of California’s Democratic Party, however, denies that there is a crime epidemic.

Last week, a security guard working for Mayor Matt Mahan became involved in an altercation that took place in the middle of a recording of a video interview in downtown San Jose. The suspect was arrested on multiple charges.

Local critics attribute the rise to “soft on crime” policies such as Proposition 47 and Proposition 57. The issue has caused a rift among Democrats in California’s legislature. Bipartisan legislation aimed at curbing small thefts is being proposed by some Democrats and Republicans. Progressive lawmakers have introduced alternative measures, dubbed Smart Solutions, that are geared towards providing additional services to offenders.

On its website, the Ella Baker Center wrote: “Our work is based on the belief that the most vulnerable communities are those who suffer the greatest harm from prisons and police.” The center collaborates with several state Democrats to promote progressive crime policies. “We prioritize their leadership, healing, and liberation.”

In 2014, California passed Proposition 47 which reclassified non-violent crimes from felonies into misdemeanors. In 2016, California voters passed Proposition 57 which increased the parole opportunities for nonviolent criminals and allowed judges to decide, instead of prosecutors, whether juveniles in certain cases should be tried as adults.

Steve Cooley said that if the super majority Democrat legislators want to have a real impact on crime they should reverse their previously enacted reckless laws which have negatively impacted public security. “I find it ironic that Adam Schiff who publicly and enthusiastically endorsed George Gascon is the victim of a theft.

Cooley also argued that Soros-backed Los Angeles DA Gascon enacted several soft-on-crime policies that led to more crime in LA.

Gascon was elected in December 2020. He directed prosecutors to stop seeking cash bails for misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies and to allow for resentencing for individuals who had been convicted of crimes while juveniles and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. Gascon’s office also made it a rule to not seek the death sentence in new cases or pursue executions of individuals on death row.

Cooley stated, “We live in a time of increased – but preventable – crime.” “It is not surprising that all sectors of society will face victimization at some point.”

According to the Public Policy Institute of California, the state’s violent crime rate has increased by 13.5% since the rate before COVID in 2019. The Public Policy Institute of California reports that the rate of violent crime in California has increased by 13.5% compared to 2019. Gun-related homicides, aggravated assaults, and robberies have also increased.

District attorneys, police chiefs, and sheriff’s associations from across the state, as well as the mayors of San Francisco and San Jose, support a ballot measure that will be on the ballot for the upcoming election. The proposed ballot measure is aimed at reversing Proposition 47, also known by the name Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.

Jeff Reisig is a district prosecutor in Yolo County. After San Jose Mayor Mahan’s attack, Reisig said that it was “more stark evidence” that California’s cities have become dangerous, with many mentally ill, addicted, and violent people roaming freely because of weak state laws.

Reisig said on X, “Many of my friends and family members who live or work in the urban cores of our large cities no longer feel secure even when walking to lunch. Some have been violently abused or threatened. Some people can’t take the smell any longer. The Prop 47 law, which decriminalized hard drugs and repeated thefts under $950, is the root cause of much of the chaos in CA.”

Reisig encouraged voters this year to vote to repeal Prop. 47.

Steve Garvey said last week that he was “sorry” about what happened to Schiff when asked if he had been the victim of theft before an upscale campaign dinner. He attributed it to the soft-on-crime policies.

Garvey stated that San Francisco had been plagued by crime for a long time. “I believe that my opponent needs to make a clear statement about his position on crime.”

On Thursday, thieves broke into Schiff’s car, which had been parked downtown, and stole all of his bags. Schiff, who did not have business attire to wear to the event, still attended the event wearing shirtsleeves, a hiking vest, and other casual clothing, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.
