Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters issued an order on June 27th to teach the Bible to all students in grades 5-12.

Walters, in his memorandum to the school board, said that this was not just an educational directive. It is a vital step in making sure our students understand the historical context and core values of our country. Walters also noted the “substantial” influence the Bible and Ten Commandments had on the founding fathers and Constitution.

Walters said that the Bible and the Ten Commandments were integral to American history and Western culture.

Walters, who knew what was coming, agreed to an interview with CNN on Tuesday. Pamela Brown, News Central’s host, was as she always is:

You just referred to it and you are saying that teaching the Bible in classrooms is a necessity and that all teachers must accept this. The Bible contains beheading, incest, and rape. Do you think it’s important to teach children about these topics?

Have you seen a CNN host or MSNBC ask a Muslim, particularly an Islamist extremist, about the “teachings of the Koran”, including its radical interpretation? Me, neither.

Walters refused to be swayed by Brown’s ignorance and remained firm in his convictions.

I believe in teaching our children the truth about their history. However, the radical leftists and the teachers union have pushed the Bible out of the schools.

Brown’s blood pressure probably shot through the roof after that reply.

Walters attempted to educate the liberal presenter, but it was like trying to teach a bird to speak French. He gave her examples of how the removal of Bibles from classrooms has affected the correct teaching of history.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement who often cited Bible verses, such as the “Letter From Birmingham Jail,” to explain why he did what he did. Brown was not phased by the news.

Okay, you didn’t answer my question. We will get into the history, and Thomas Jefferson was a proponent of freedom of religion. He did not advocate the establishment of any religion. But are you comfortable with the teachings in the Bible? Rape, incest, and beheading are all acceptable topics to discuss if you wish to bring them back into the classroom. Are you—- Is this acceptable to you?”

Brown’s ignorance returned after Walters refused a position.

Will you let teachers teach the Bible in its entirety? How can teachers know which parts of the Bible they should teach and which ones not to? You know that the Bible contains pornographic materials, which you have condemned and taken away a teacher’s teaching certificate for allowing students to access. It’s all in the Bible.

Walters, ever the trooper tried again, reminding Brown in part of some “teachings”, that the far-left has taught to children.

Let me be clear. The Bible does not belong on the same level as Gender Queer and Flamer. The Bible, however, is not pornography. It has been cited throughout American history.

Academic standards tell teachers to discuss the Bible when referring to the Mayflower Compact or “Letter from Birmingham Jail” and the Declaration of Independence. These are all clear. Primary sources make it very clear that these people referred to history – and in our history, they cited the Bible.

We will include it if the information is historically accurate. It would be absurd to teach the Pilgrims’ story if they didn’t tell us their intentions for coming to America. This is crucial, and we won’t allow the radical left to continue to force a false narrative on our children that says that faith had no part in the Pilgrims’ journey. It’s there.

Walters is right to think that teaching the Bible in schools does not mean pointing out how David beheaded Goliath. It’s about helping students understand their country’s past.
