Why Can’t Pelosi Ever Follow Her Own Rules?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently docked $5,000 each from the pay of two Republican congressmen, Reps. Louie Gohmert and Andrew Clyde, who defied her new metal detectors. She then tried to impose a second offense under $10,000, which was ratified by the House after Republicans walked around the metal detectors without stopping. After docking pay and demanding fines, Pelosi was then seen entering the House Chamber without going through the metal detectors herself.

“Yesterday at approximately 9:59 a.m. multiple members observed the Speaker of the House entering the House Chamber without completing security screening. We are demanding she face the same fines as every other member of Congress,” GOP members of the committee wrote to the House.

The letter directs the House to fine the Speaker for failing to complete security screenings prior to entering the House Chamber. The violations of House Resolution 73 imposes a $5,000 fine for the first offense and that they are required by House Rules to impose that fine.

Gohmert, who said he usually complies with the metal detectors, said he will appeal the fine he was hit with. He had reentered the House Floor after stepping out to use the bathroom without going through the metal detectors. He noted this wasn’t from ‘The Godfather’ where he could hide a gun somewhere since there are no toilets with tanks and it should have been a non-issue.

Metal detectors were installed just days following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. While some refused to comply, others used the political stunt to endorse the Second Amendment instead. “I am legally permitted to carry my firearm in Washington, D.C. and within the Capitol complex. Metal detectors outside of the House would not have stopped the violence we saw last week — it’s just another political stunt by Speaker Pelosi,” tweeted GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert.

While Pelosi’s office did not respond to skirting her own detectors, the House Speaker declared that the enemy was ‘within the House of Representatives,’ by citing members who want to bring guns on the floor have threatened violence on other members. Rep. Boebert soon tweeted out that she has never taken her gun onto the House Floor.

Pelosi wants to make the rules but she doesn’t want to live by them like everyone else. She insisted on metal detectors and institute fines for members who walk around them then have the audacity to act the same. There is one rule for Democrats and another for Republicans. Talk about unity.
