How Has Kamala Harris Maintained Her Silence During Cuomo’s Sexual Harassment Claims?

Do you recall the outrage and treatment of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh when running amid sexual harassment claims? The one claim with zero witnesses and multiple alterations to what happened. Now, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is under allegations of sexually inappropriate conduct by six women, and the Democrats have been oddly quiet, especially President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. What happened to the Me Too movement and “believe all women?”

A reporter recently asked “Madame Vice President, do you have any comment on Gov. Cuomo?” before she walked out of the briefing room without answering the question. Multiple requests for comments from Harris on the allegations have gone unanswered and even President Biden hasn’t released an official statement regarding the matter.

During Kavanaugh’s hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Harris even asked him if a man could have positive relationships with certain women while still harming others, despite these two things being far from mutually exclusive. She also expressed her support as a champion of the #MeToo movement and thanked Ms. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexual harassment, for her courage. “I want to thank you for your courage, and I want to tell you, I believe you. I believe you,” Harris said.

Harris has also condemned numerous politicians and lawmakers in the past over similar accusations, even joining a group of female colleagues that called on former Democratic Sen. Al Franken to resign when he faced sexual harassment allegations. Franken, the former senator from Minnesota, was pressured and bullied into resigning from office without having accusations against him properly vetted.

Now, with five allegations and a nursing home scandal against Gov. Cuomo, Democrats have taken a different stance. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called the allegations “difficult to read” and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said they are “serious and credible,” but the push for an investigation has been downplayed. Even Sen. Kirsten Gellibrand, who joined Harris in asking Franken to resign, said “this isn’t really the conversation we should be having” right now.

Reporters asked White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki if Vice President Harris would back up the investigation being conducted by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“I think the vice president’s view is she believes a woman should be treated with respect. Their voices should be heard. They should tell their story. There is an independent investigation that is happening now being overseen by the attorney general and she certainly supports that,” Psaki said.

The latest, and most serious, comes from a woman who claimed that the governor reached under her blouse and groped her inside the Executive Mansion in Albany, even when she told him to stop.

Even Tara Reade, a woman who came forward during the 2020 presidential campaign with a sexual assault allegation against Joe Biden, said Democrats have continued to downplay the misogyny and scandals within their own offices while having the major news networks cover their backs. Left-leaning news networks attacked and investigated Reade’s past in a way that was meant to discredit her claims against Biden.

“Nothing has changed. These powerful, elite Democrats, the Democratic National Committee, they just circle their wagons around them and allow them to do predatory behavior, enable it, and even reward them,” Reade said.

It went from “believe all women” to “they should tell their story.”
