Krispy Kreme Wants You To Swap COVID-19 With Diabetes (And You’d Get Free Donuts For A Year)

The World Obesity Foundation released studies earlier this month that obesity is one of the key factors playing a role in a nation’s COVID-19 death toll. The reports find that the risk of death from COVID-19 is about 10 times higher in countries where most of the population is overweight, compared to countries where fewer than half are overweight.

So what are people doing to fight these pre-existing conditions and the fight against obesity during a pandemic? Well, Krispy Kreme is offering a free donut every single day that will last through the end of the year for everyone who has been vaccinated against COVID-19. Was this idea brought by a Pharma industry or politicians at hand? Seems like both… Or maybe it’s because Biden’s trying to keep his promise of 100 million shots within his first 100 days in office. This is too weird.

“We’d like to show sweet support to those who have received the COVID-19 Vaccine. Starting today, bring your Vaccine Card to a Krispy Kreme shop and get 1 FREE Original Glazed doughnut. No chance to get your Vaccine? This will run thru the end of 2021,” Krispy Kreme tweeted.

The company made the announcement Monday that people can get a free original glazed doughnut in U.S shops every day until the end of 2021, as long as they show a valid inoculation record card of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. It is currently limited to one pastry per day with no purchase necessary.

According to U.S hospitalization rates, 78% of COVID-19 patients who have had to be hospitalized are due to issues regarding being overweight and/or obese. It’s a wonder how such a marketing strategy got started in the first place. If Krispy Kreme wanted to dig into people’s personal medical records (on an incredibly immoral level) and influence health decisions, why not offer a free coffee?

This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme, along with several other restaurants and corporations, have gotten involved with incentivizing people for different acts. They also offered a free doughnut on Election Day as long as you sported an “I Voted” sticker. While this seems to only encourage others to vote, it also violates federal laws, such as US Code 18, Section 597, by compensating people for casting a ballot and providing some sort of reward at cash value.

Rick Hasen, a law professor at the University of California, even warned Ben & Jerry’s back in 2008 after they offered free scoops to anyone who showed up with an “I Voted” sticker in that year’s election, adding that these are illegal deals nationwide.

Eugene Gu, founder and CEO of Cool Quit, is someone who works with Stanford-trained doctors and is currently working to fight the coronavirus pandemic. He warned individuals against this marketing ploy for junk food and called out the company for promoting diabetes, obesity, and so many other health issues that are destroying the country. He also indicated that heart disease is still the leading cause of death in America.

“Krispy Kreme offering free doughnuts for getting vaccinated is like Marlboro offering free cigarettes for getting a flu shot. We have an obesity epidemic in this country that is killing us. Corporations that ride the COVID-19 vaccine as a marketing ploy for junk food is terrible,” Gu tweeted.

So Krispy Kreme wants you to survive COVID-19, but die from diabetes.
