The number of homicides and shootings in Dem-run cities, including Minneapolis, has been on the rise. The most recent crime wave included a stray bullet that shot and killed Aniya Allen, a 6-year-old who was riding in the backseat of her mother’s car eating a Happy Meal. Two days before Aniya was shot, 9-year-old Trinity Ottoson-Smith was shot while jumping on a trampoline. And two weeks before that, 10-year-old LaDavionne Garrett Jr. was struck while riding in a car and is still fighting for his life. Crime is getting worse in Dem-run cities and their leaders can’t seem to figure out why.
The Star Tribune reported that the number of gunshot victims in Minneapolis is up 90% over the last year. Some have said that police officers have also been slow to respond to crime in the area, even though there are fewer officers on the street since the killing of George Floyd. Nearly 300 officers have left the department or gone on disability.
Juut Salon Spa, a Minneapolis hair salon and spa, recently announced on their Facebook page that they would be closing because the neighborhood has become too dangerous to continue allowing employees and clients to visit. This is Juut’s second salon to close in the past year. This has never been about fighting for justice and it’s not a protest. It’s a bunch of destructive acts caused by criminals with too much time on their hands.
“We decided to close due to the continued escalation of crime and violence in our neighborhood. I would be heartbroken if any of our team or clients got hurt. It has become more and more evident that Uptown continues to struggle with store closings, social unrest, crime, and street closures,” a statement from the salon reads.
Minneapolis reported 273 gunshot victims so far this year, which is more than two per day. But Democrats have continued to pin the blame on gun sales and how the COVID-19 pandemic “disproportionately impacted communities of color.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey even proposed sending “violence intervention workers” instead of police officers to patrol the hardest-hit neighborhoods. He’d announced that twenty men would be hitting the streets in June as part of the Community Safety Specialist program and that their first assignment will be to figure out “where all of the guns are coming from.” The city will give the program $1 million.
“This is part of an ecosystem. With other violence prevention and yes, law enforcement. And if we do this right it is supplemental to the work that our police officers are doing on a daily basis,” Mayor Frey said.
When you look at high violent crime rates and how to combat them, it’s pretty simple. You put cops on the street and enforce the laws. Democrats have continued to politicize and justify the yearlong shootings and riots that their cities have become cesspools of violence.
While criminal justice reforms were originally designed to focus on non-violent offenders, the violent offenders seem to be the only ones that Democrats support and care about these days. That’s where the money is.
