Mayorkas Claims The Border Numbers Are Misleading Then Offers Work Permits To 100,000 Migrants

Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has been in hot water over the ongoing crisis at the southern border. During a recent Senate hearing, he was grilled by Sen. Josh Hawley over the number of apprehensions since President Joe Biden took office.

In May, Customs and Border Patrol encountered nearly 180,641 people. In June, they apprehended 188,829 people attempting to enter the country illegally. CBP states they expect to see the numbers climb despite being the hottest months of the year. Without any real leadership, states are experiencing a spike in crime and COVID-19 cases.

“The cartels are having an easier and easier time smuggling drugs across our border, which are going to states like mine, which are awashed in drugs…Mr. Secretary with all due respect, this record is an unmitigated disaster,” Hawley said.

Mayorkas tried to argue how the numbers are “misleading” and said while apprehensions are higher than in previous years, it doesn’t take into account how some of the migrants have already been previously apprehended. Hawley pushed back on the argument and asked from his answer then if the border surge is “largely illusory” and that there are no issues because Biden’s policies are working.

Mayorkas claimed that the Biden Administration, along with the Department of Homeland Security, has a plan to address the border crossings and that it takes time to implement. At no point did he mention that the number of illegal immigrants is the highest Border Patrol has seen over the last decade or how they actually plan to handle it.

Mayorkas even went on to grant 100,000 migrant Haitians with work permits, saying that the dignity of migrants is his “foremost” priority. Critics have argued that the overwhelming handout of work permits cuts American wages, career opportunities raise their rent, curbs their productivity, and wrecks their open-minded, equality-promoting civic culture.

Polls have also signified a deep opposition to labor migration and the inflow of temporary contract workers into jobs that are sought by young U.S graduates.

President Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with being “border czar,” but it took her 3 months just to make it to El Paso, TX, for a photo-op. She then released a five-point strategy report on the surge of illegal immigrants and the “root causes” of their migration. The plan points to nothing but more funding for Central America and massive amnesty for millions. In no part of her plan does she mention anything about supporting the actual border.

The most troubling aspect of the border crisis is the messaging from the Biden Administration to potential Cuban refugees. After welcoming thousands of Hispanic refugees with open arms, President Biden and his Homeland Security Department have turned around and made it abundantly clear to Cubans not to cross the Caribbean Sea and seek asylum in America.

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio appeared on a recent Fox News “Life, Liberty & Levin” to talk about the ongoing unrest at the border and in Cuba. He pointed out how Mayorkas made a forceful statement almost immediately about Cuban refugees and asked where that forceful statement was when Central American refugees poured into the country after Biden become president.

“It’s almost was a joke, because [of] the reason why we’re having a crisis at the southern border,” he said. “Look, it’s true. These people in Central America live under very difficult conditions, have for a very long time. But these trafficking networks have gone into these countries and other places and told them, hey, there’s a new president, he’s going to be the opposite of Donald Trump,” Rubio said.

Rubio went on to say that the Biden Administration was inviting people to come here illegally and that the far left voters don’t believe in borders at all. He went on to say that no country in the world, not even America or China, can absorb uncontrolled mass migration.

But it’s pretty clear why the Biden Administration has been friendlier with Central American refugees than Cuban refugees. They don’t want rebellious refugees escaping from the kind of communist regime that the U.S is trying to implement itself. Biden is doing his best to close the door on Cubans, who’ve experienced the brutal history of socialism and are painfully aware of it.
