ACLU Says Vaccine Mandates Are A Victory For Civil Liberties

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) recently published an article in the New York Times asserting how government-mandated vaccines are a “victory” for civil liberties. It went on to claim that vaccine mandates further liberties for the most vulnerable, people with disabilities and fragile immune systems, children too young to be vaccinated, and communities of color. Only the radical left would try to justify a bodily intrusion. If the ACLU had any credibility left, they just lost it.

The national legal director of the ACLU, David Cole, along with Daniel Mach, director of the organization’s Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief, penned the article in favor of vaccine requirements. They wrote that the vaccine also safeguards those who work with regular exposure to the public, like teachers, doctors, nurses, bus drivers, and grocery store employees.

“…we all have the fundamental right to bodily integrity and to make our own health care decisions. But these rights are not absolute. They do not include the right to inflict harm on others,” Cole and Mach wrote.

They go on to say that the vaccine protects people from the disease’s worst effects. They said the vaccine “offers the promise of restoring to all of us our most basic liberties,” adding that it would allow a safe return to life in schools, houses of worship, and political meetings.

Cole and Mach said that they see no problem with requiring COVID-19 vaccines in most circumstances and that they deem vaccines a “justifiable intrusion on autonomy and bodily integrity.” They said religious reasons aren’t a “strong enough” reason to reject the vaccine against COVID-19.

The article constantly highlights the risks of COVID-19 without mentioning the overall survival rate for the virus, which is higher than 98%. Ironically enough, the ACLU points out how the “real threat” is the states taking steps to ban government overreach.

Cole and Mach point out how states such as Florida, Iowa, South Carolina, and Texas have continued to “endanger the public health” and make more deaths from the disease inevitable. They accused these states of trampling the rights of the most vulnerable who want to engage in society “without putting their health at grave risk.”

But the vaccine mandates have threatened those who do not want an experimental jab the risk of losing their jobs, social lives, and potentially the right to sell and buy. Director Robby Starbuck was one of the users to tweet back the obvious.

“‘The government forcing a needle in your arm is actually them furthering your civil liberties’ is quite the take even from Marxists like you. Thank you for dropping the mask to reveal yourselves though,” Starbuck tweeted.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald also pointed out how having the state force citizens to inject their bodies with the medicine they don’t want is not a victory for civil liberties.

Pushing mandates as “civil liberties” is as Orwellian as it gets. It’s an odd way to support a radical left idea that isn’t even strong, to begin with. They are pushing the COVID-19 vaccine while knowing that you can still contract COVID-19, infect others, and suffer the same symptoms. Because of this, it’s deemed ineffective. What’s the point of mandating a vaccine other than to have total control of the population?
