The long-awaited platform will be owned by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which also intends to launch a subscription video on-demand service that will feature "non-woke" entertainment programming, the group said in a statement. Former President Donald Trump recently announced that he plans to launch a new social media company in Spring 2022 called “TRUTH Social.” He explains how Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) created the social media platform to stand up to the “tyranny” of Big Tech and give a voice to all. He said he is excited to soon share his thoughts on the platform and create a rival to the “liberal media consortium” and Big Tech companies, which have used their power to silence opposing voices in the country. TMTG is expected to have an initial valuation of over $1 billion.
“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable. I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon,” Trump said in a statement.
Trump went on to say that there would be a beta launch for invited guests in November 2021 and that a nationwide launch is expected in the first quarter of 2022. Advanced registration is already available on the website and Apple users can pre-order at the App Store. Google Play pre-orders will be available soon.
Trump will serve as the chairman of the newly formed TMTG and oversee operations of TRUTH Social. He describes the site as America’s “Big Tent” social media platform that will encourage “open, free, and honest global conversation” without discriminating against any particular political ideology.
The TRUTH’s Social “Big Tent” approach would be a new way of describing “inclusivity” in America, adding that it is a bit like a giant outdoor event tent at your best friend’s wedding. They described the platform as a “combination of multiple families” where everyone comes together to have an amazing time and share their viewpoints of the world. “Although we don’t always agree with each other, we welcome these varied opinions and welcome the conversation,” the site adds.
Along with TRUTH SOCIAL, Trump will also be launching a subscription video service that will feature ‘non-woke’ content for those who would like to be informed of everyday life without the predominant “liberal wokeness” attached to it. The subscription will include original entertainment shows, news, podcasts, and more.
The social media platform has already received massive interest from people wanting to help, including Patrick Orland, the CEO of Digital World Acquisitions Corp. He said his company would even be willing to merge with TMTG to create new services and reinforce the platform.
While the site is planning a soft launch next month, the plan could be in jeopardy if they don’t attain the right licensing requirements in the next 30 days. According to Software Freedom Conservancy, a non-profit watchdog group, TRUTH Social has violated the Affero General Public License (AGPLv3) by ripping off another Mastodon, another self-hosted social networking service.
Hackers attempted to expose one of the hidden sign-up links on a test version of the platform, with people posting screenshots of the site looking “strikingly familiar” to the Mastodon platform. While users are welcome to reuse Mastodon’s code, it must comply with the AGPLv3 that governs it. Trump representatives have not commented on the reported hack or if they used the coding. Some note that TRUTH social could get their rights and permissions in the software terminated if they are not required by the license.
While there have been a few curveballs for the TRUMP social team, this is another step towards fighting against Big Tech and the woke ideology infiltrating the timelines.
