Former VP Mike Pence Rejects Trump Claim He Could Have Intervened In 2020 Election

Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke in Florida on Friday. He rebutted claims by Trump’s supporters that he could use his power to challenge the 2020 presidential election.

In a speech to the Federalist Society, Pence stated that “there are some in our party who believe I was the presiding official over the joint session Congress and therefore had unilateral authority to reject electoral colleges votes.” “And this week our former president stated that I had the right of overturning the election. Trump is wrong. I had no right to reverse the election.

Pence said, “Frankly, there is almost no idea that anyone could choose to be the American president.”

Pence stated that, “under Article II Section One elections are conducted at state level not by Congress” and that Congress’ only role with respect to the electoral colleges is to count and open votes submitted by states.

Pence stated, “No more, not less.”

Pence also called the January 6 riot a “dark moment in the history” of the United States Capitol.

He said that he understood the disappointment many feel over the results of the last election.

Pence stated, “I share it.” “Whatever the future brings, I know that we did our duty on that day. John Quincy Adams stated, “Death is ours, results are God’s”.

Pence stated that it was time to “move forward” and that if we lose faith in our Constitution, we will not only lose elections but also lose our country.

Pence’s remarks come just days after Trump stated that he believed his vice president had the ability, through the Electoral Count Act to send electoral votes back to the States.

Trump stated that the Vice President had this right and could have sent votes back to legislators for reassessment following so many frauds and irregularities. If it had been sent back to legislators or Nancy Pelosi (in charge of Capitol security), had followed my recommendation and significantly increased security, then there wouldn’t have been a January 6 as we know it.”

Pence’s speech comes amid speculation about his 2024 presidential ambitions and questions about his relationship with Trump after their vocal disagreement over the outcome of the 2020 elections.

Pence spoke out about the accomplishments he and Trump had made during their four-year term. He also criticized Biden’s “far left policies” which have resulted in rising inflation and empty shelves. Pence also addressed rising crime in the Biden administration, and he blasted liberal district attorneys throughout the country.

Pence also addressed other pressing issues such as the crisis at the border, attacks against free speech, Department of Justice Overreach, Second Amendment, coronavirus vaccine mandates and the dangers of Roe v. Wade being thrown to the “ash pile of history.”
