Kamala Harris, Vice President of the Democratic Party rallied Democrats Saturday at their winter meeting and stated that the major task of the midterms was to remind voters how the Biden-Harris administration has largely fulfilled their campaign promises.
Harris stated that Harris was attempting to demonstrate to people that they can get what they want in many different ways. Harris spoke at the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) meeting.
Harris, fresh from her visit to Europe to discuss the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stated that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin’s invasion in Ukraine is a threat to other democracies. Harris stated, “The ocean that divides us will not leave our untouched by this aggression.”
Harris reflected on her European meetings and said that their greatest strength was unity and the ability to stand together for democracy. She reiterated the U.S. support for Ukraine in its fight against a Russian invasion. Harris stated that the United States stood firmly by the Ukrainian people and in defense of NATO Alliance.
Harris’s speech at the Democratic National Committee in Washington D.C. comes just as faithful prepare for what is likely to be a difficult midterm election campaign. This is the first time that hundreds of DNC members have met in person since 2019, when the coronavirus pandemic struck.
Thursday night, Biden addressed approximately 415 members of DNC. He encouraged them to be proud and do a better job selling the record to the American people.
Biden said that he had a record, something to be proud about. He also spoke of an agenda that addressed the most pressing issues in America and in American lives. The message that resonated was shared at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Thursday. We must now sell it with confidence and clarity, conviction, repetition.
Harris stated that even though key components of the Biden Harris agenda were defeated in Congress (namely the Build Back Better social expenditure agenda and voting rights reforms), Democrats still did a lot. Harris praised the American Rescue Plan, job growth, schools and businesses’ reopening after the pandemic, and the bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which she claimed will create more union jobs.
Harris thanked the Democrats for voting in record numbers during coronavirus pandemic, and stated that now is the right time to recall those achievements.
Harris stated, “A lot of their demands they got and so let’s get out there and remind them…because we know they will come back again.”
Republicans seek to blame Harris and Biden for the high gas prices and inflation that have harmed American families.
Emma Vaughn, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, stated that Kamala Harris was returning to record gas prices, historical inflation, runaway crimes, and a country going in the wrong direction. “Biden & Harris have lost trust in the American people — Their agenda is destroying wallets and pitting Americans against one another and weakening us on the international stage.”
Harris returned to Washington Saturday morning from a trip to Poland and Romania. He was there to show unity among NATO allies and to support Ukraine.
Harris said Friday that the U.S. would take additional action to ensure Russian President Vladimir Putin suffers “serious consequences” for his “atrocious, outrageous conduct in support of the Russian people”.
Harris, who was speaking at a joint press conference in Bucharest (Romania) Friday with Klaus Iohannis, said that it was “painful” watching what the Ukrainians are doing.
Harris stated, “We are certain that any intentional attack on or targeting civilians is war crime, period.”
A White House official stated that Harris would continue her engagement with European and Eastern Flank leaders after her European trip. This will be done in a series phone calls beginning next week. She will discuss her trip and the next steps in our collective response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
