Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was seen in public for the first time since March, when he was admitted to hospital. Campaign staffer for ex-NFL star Herschel Walker posted a Friday photo of Clarence Thomas and Clarence Thomas. This marked Thomas’ first appearance since being released from hospital on March 25, following an undisclosed illness.
“Herschel was able to spend some time with Justice Thomas during his visit to DC to accept the Horatio Alger award this week,” Walker Communications Director Mallory Blount tweets Friday.
Thomas is an honorary member of the Horatio Alger Association’s Honorary Board. This is one of the largest privately-funded, need-based college scholarship providers in the country.
Thomas was admitted to Washington, D.C., suffering from flu-like symptoms for one week. The Supreme Court stated that it was not due to the coronavirus. The 73 year-old was unable to attend oral arguments for a week and then participated remotely in the week that followed.
Thomas, who was nominated by George H.W. Bush in 1991, has been a member of the Supreme Court. Bush will succeed Thurgood Marshall as the nation’s first Black justice.
As the most senior justice Thomas decides who makes the majority opinion in a case where Chief Justice John Roberts has been in the minority.
