Tesla CEO Elon Musk used Twitter to announce that he had met Pope Francis, in spite of his $44 billion bid for Twitter.
Musk tweeted, “Honored To Meet @Pontifex Yesterday,” and included a photo of Musk, Francis, and four of Musk’s teenage children.
The Vatican did not announce the audience nor provide any details about the discussion. Musk’s tweet was a follow-up to one from a street scene in Venice. This suggests that he may have made other stops during his tour.
Francis meets often with celebrities in private audiences. These meetings are held in the Vatican Hotel’s reception room. When meeting with CEOs of corporations, he often uses the same talking points to encourage them to use technology and wealth to help the least fortunate while still caring for God’s creation.
Twitter’s board recommended that shareholders approve Musk’s purchase on June 21st, but shares of Twitter are still far below Musk’s asking price, which indicates considerable doubt about the sale actually happening.
