CNN’s Kaitlan Collins and Don Lemon clashed on Monday with Will Hurd, a former Republican lawmaker. They were discussing the border crisis as well as Title 42.
Hurd, who was a representative of a Texas border area in Congress, stated that President Biden’s policy on border security was worse than the one of former President Trump and that Trump’s policies were “terrible.”
“I can argue that President Biden’s policies are more cruel than Donald Trump’s. Donald Trump’s was horrible, it was one of the worst presidents. You’re likely to see thousands of people sleeping in El Paso’s streets, and temperatures will drop to 20 degrees by the week’s end. The former representative stated that this is an inhumane policy, and that they should do more.
Hurd suggested that Biden fire Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and other border security officials because they lack “credibility.” Lemon interrupted Hurd and said, “We want to respond” (along with additional questions) to the “a lot” of what the guest just said.
Collins followed up with him and asked him to confirm what he said about Mayorkas needing to be fired.
Hurd replied, “Yes, of course,” “This crisis has escalated beneath him. There are other options for expedited removal. There are other ways to expedite removal.
Lemon followed up on Hurd’s claim that Biden’s policies were worse then Trump’s.
“You stated that, you know that Trump administration policies were terrible. You believe the Biden administration has been worse. You are blaming the Biden administration for being worse. The president is the one who gets the blame. This is a matter that both Republicans and Democrats have dealt with for years. The Republicans have blocked many bills that concern border security. It shouldn’t be Congress and legislators. They should all be able to work together to solve this problem, not just use it as a political back-and-forth and make immigrant pawns. Lemon asked.
Hurd also agreed, saying that politicians would prefer to use immigration as a political bludgeon between each other rather than solving the problem.
Title 42, a Trump-era rule for border control that was used from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to expel migrants, will expire Wednesday.
Although the White House insists they were preparing for Title 42’s end, they did not explain how.
“We have been planning for it’s expiration and will continue to do so. John Kirby, National Security Council strategic communication coordinator, stated that this was point one. “Point two…is that we are making the appropriate preparations for this expiration. You will hear more about that from us, specifically [the Department of Homeland Security], next Week.”
