Lee Zeldin Makes Decision on Running for RNC Chair

Many were calling for Rep. Lee Zeldin (R.N.Y.), to run as the Republican National Committee Chair after his performance in New York’s gubernatorial elections last month.

Zeldin, however, announced that he would not run on Wednesday morning. He claimed that Ronna McDaniel, the current Chair of the RNC, is not running for reelection and that this was “pre-baked”.

“I am grateful for all the messages that I have received over the past weeks in support of my decision to run for the Republican National Committee Chair. In a tweet, Zeldin stated that change is urgently needed and that many leaders, including myself, are ready and willing to help ensure that our party retools, transforms, and prepares for critical elections, namely the 2024 Presidential, and Congressional races.” “However, Chairwoman McDaniel’s election seems to be already planned, as though the disappointing results of every election she has contested, including the one yesterday in Georgia, are irrelevant.”

Zeldin, despite his decision not to run, is asking McDaniel for help to bring in new blood.

“It would be better for Chairwoman McDaniel to listen to and respect the wishes and desires of the grassroots voters of our party and let the RNC move forward with new leadership.” “Making room for a new Chair would be her greatest service to the Republican Party.”

Harmeet Dhillon is an RNC committeewoman and plans to announce her candidacy in the next few days.

Dhillon stated in a statement that “after three consecutive terms of underwhelming poll results for the GOP, while leaders congratulate themselves for exceptional performance, I feel we owe our voters to have an honest debate about the leadership and what we need to change to win in 2024.”
