Retiring Jim Inhofe Slips $511 Million Into $1.7 Trillion Omnibus

The ranking senator of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Jim Inhofe (R – OK), has half a trillion dollars in earmarks for the $1.7 trillion Omnibus Spending Bills.

Inhofe, who is about to retire, has the second-highest number of earmarks within the bill’s over four-thousand pages. Only Sen. Richard Shelby (R. AL), vice chair of Senate Appropriations Committee, has more.

Given his imminent departure from the Senate, Inhofe is unlikely to be subject to any political pressure to stop the bill being stuffed with earmarks.

These are some of the more important earmarks Inhofe has:

$114 million for Air Force for KC-46A 1 Bay Depot Corrosion Control Hangar
$90 million to build the Air Force KC-46A 2-Bay Program Maintenance Hangar
$86 million to fund the Army Advance Individual Training Complex Phase 2, Oklahoma
$40 million for Tulsa International Airport (TUL), Air Traffic Control Tower
Inhofe, despite America’s declining support for Ukraine entanglement, is a vocal advocate of the omnibus spending bill.

Inhofe wrote that many of our @NATO allies are on the frontlines with Russia and give more aid for Ukraine pound-for pound than the U.S. This is why we need to increase industrial capacity to replenish our weapons stocks, sell to our allies to replenish theirs, and sustain Ukraine victories in November. Inhofe shared an infographic titled “Destroy Russia Together.”

Late November’s Morning Consult poll found that 48 per cent of registered Republican voters wanted to reduce foreign aid. 48% of Republicans want to lessen their involvement in foreign affairs.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned Friday that there could be a “major war” between Russia and the West over Ukraine.
