Thom Tillis Wants to Speed Up the GOP’s Amnesty Death Spiral

Although it has been more than a week since I wrote about the horrible border bill that Senator Thom Tillis (R.N.C.), cosponsored with Sen. Kyrsten Silena (I.Ariz.), is still an eye-opener for me. You can find the details in that column so I won’t repeat them here. This will be a more comprehensive examination of the pathetic state of congressional Republicans.

My colleagues and I shared our belief that the GOP only has two elections to put its “you-know-what” together before it is permanently relegated as a minority party. This is the true result of the terrible midterm elections. In November, the Republicans failed to win any national elections. They managed to perform severely when almost every historical election factor was in their favor.

Beltway Republicans should know that if they don’t win when all the stars align, they will be whipped whenever they do.

(This is where the Defeat Chorus begins whining about all elections not being rigged. This is not true. It helps explain Republican dominance in the states. But it also prevents us from having a serious discussion about how we can make things better. This paragraph will likely be reprinted in every column dealing with elections and the GOP.)

I am convinced that Republican senators such as Tillis, Mitch McConnell, and Mitt Romney don’t care if their party is in the minority forever when I see what they’re up to. Anyone can show me that I am wrong. I would be wrong.

The third rail of Republican politics should be Amnesty, specifically any aspect that has to do with DACA. It is absurd for any Republican to even consider it. This is what Tillis did by cosponsoring the “DACA on Steroids” bill. He was able to throw the party on rails in order to get fried.

This was something I wrote last week, but it is worth bringing up again. Any kind of border bill that gives in to the Democrats is not a good idea. This is dumbassery at its finest. Tillis believed that this was a good idea right after the midterm embarrassment. These are the reasons I think the GOP should switch its symbol from an elephant to a thick-skulled moron who’s shooting his feet.

A Republican showing some concern for the Mexican border could help ease some of the sting left from November. Even if the bill isn’t passed by the Senate, the mere sight of it would be a welcome distraction to many conservative voters who are close to giving up on voting.

Thom Tillis should be made to write “Republicans lose if they suck up on Democrats on amnesty” 1000 times. Make a copy and stick it on his office wall. Keep the other one in your pocket.

As we close 2022 and move into 2023, the national Republican party is in no good health. Thom Tillis, his amnesty folly, and the rest of the party are stooping around the sick bed and trying to be full Kevorkian with the half-dead patient.

It would be wonderful if the GOP could soon fight the Democrats and save our great Republic. Unfortunately, Republicans will continue to fight Republicans as long as Tillis is around to save the Republic.
