Decision Desk HQ reports that the incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock won reelection against Trump-endorsed Republican opponent Herschel. This was less than three hours after Tuesday’s polls closed.
Walker is currently leading Warnock from 50.46% to 49.54% with an estimated 83% of votes.
Both candidates had small leads throughout the night. However, the outstanding votes remained concentrated within the densely populated blue strongholds around Atlanta.
Walker was able to outperform in rural counties but it wasn’t enough for Warnock’s advantage over Walker with absentee and early voters.
Although Warnock’s win won’t affect party control in Senate, it will reduce the influence on Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema, both Democrats from Arizona. This is a good thing for Kamala Harris, who will be able to focus on the party-line votes and not necessarily agree with Biden’s legislative agenda.
The Senate will be dominated by Democrats.
