Will Secular Conservatives Have Conservative Grandchildren?

The great work done by secular conservatives has been and will continue to be a major force in America’s liberty and conservatism.

It is unlikely that they will have any conservative grandchildren and many of them won’t have any children.

I’ve spoken with hundreds upon hundreds of conservatives every year over the radio and in person.

These questions are what I ask all the time:

“How many children have you been blessed with?”

I am given a number and I ask them:

“What is your batting average in relation to conservative values? ”

Sometimes, the answer to this question is “I’m hitting one thousand,” but it is often the most common. A conservative parent usually has at least one child who is leftist.

It’s true, even though it’s less common among religious conservatives. Many religious parents have seen at least one child abandon religion and conservatism.

I will never forget the man who sailed with me on my annual listener cruises. He claimed that he was the father to three sons who had each received a doctorate from Yale, Princeton, or Stanford.

He sighed and said, “And they are all leftists.”

They chose the university’s values to be more conservative and religious than their own.

American life has been a tragedy ever since World War II. American life has been a tragedy since World War II. These included material comforts and financial security. However, they failed to teach their children the values of love, nationalism, and self-discipline.

Christians and Jews both faced the same problem. Parents were often unable to explain Christianity and their faith to their children.

Secular conservatives may be able to see the problems in their own children, but few can conclude that their children are being alienated from conservativism through abandoning God’s Judeo-Christian values.

Yes, it is.

One of America’s three value systems is God.

This is a statement that American conservatism can’t be reconciled to a secular worldview.

Secular conservatism isn’t working. We saw it in the lockdowns and every day about the attacks on “binary”. It was disproportionately religious Americans who support and fight for conservative values.

It was true that lockdowns were disappointing for Christians and religious Jews. This is because many rabbis, priests, and ministers closed their synagogues and churches to comply with secular authority.

But, nearly every challenge to irrational authority was made by religious institutions

These are both issues related to premature sexualization in American elementary schools, as well as the challenges associated with nihilistic claims that there are more than two genders (or ‘genders”) and that there is an objective definition of “man and woman”.

Most of the problems are attributed to religion in America. But, most of the nihilism can be found in secular America.

It’s difficult enough for religious conservatives to not make their grandchildren or children conservative. Secular conservatives have it much harder.

I am aware that many secular conservatives don’t believe they are allowed to practice or believe in any religion.

These people will hear me saying, “So what?”

Understanding that America’s future depends on Americans believing in “In God We Trust”, is a good start. Parents who teach piano lessons to their children despite being tone-deaf are exemplary.

One of the best insights that 12-step programs offer is “Fake it till you make it.” This applies to all good things, even those that aren’t naturally occurring.

Find a clergyman who is a good fit for your beliefs, and bring your grandchild or child to church.

Say a blessing before each meal.

I promise you that the discomfort you feel when you act religiously is nothing compared to what you will experience if your child/grandchild ends up woke.
