A bunch of woke residents of Illinois got their rainbow undies in a bunch when they found out that Awake Illinois, a conservative organization partnering with Moms for Liberty and Gays Against Groomers, was coming to speak at the city-owned Des Plaines theater. They showed up in a group to tell the city to shut down the event because it was being run by a “hate group.”

Although the venue is owned by Des Plaines, it is rented to private entertainment companies. Participation in silencing speeches would be dangerous for any government agency.

For argument’s sake, let’s say that Awake Illinois is hateful and bigoted. It is the most serious threat to homosexuality since Cindy Crawford.

Justice Alito wrote in Matal v. Tam “[The idea that the government may restrict] speech expressing ideas that offend … strikes at the heart of the First Amendment.” Speech that demeans on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, disability, or any other similar ground is hateful; but the proudest boast of our free speech jurisprudence is that we protect the freedom to express “the thought that we hate.”

If it attempted to shut down Awake Illinois, the City of Des Plaines could be facing a costly lawsuit. It was remarkable to see her end intolerance towards leftists. She asks protesters about Awake Illinois panelists.

Despite her valiant attempts to bring sanity to the table, the theater owner decided that the event should be canceled after receiving threats. ABC News reported this story.

The theater’s operator stated that he was not taking a position and was just trying to make a place for people to hold events. The backlash against his decision to host Awake Illinois.

Ron Onesti (operator) stated that he was proud of having provided a platform for positive and hopefully positive discussions.

However, it raised many questions and he claimed that he canceled the event because he was threatened.

“It’s not my job to make a decision on these issues. They claimed they would bring guns to prove the truth. The situation got so bad that it included bullets and dog feces.

This behavior is becoming routine for the left. They resort to threats and thuggish strategies. Awake Illinois is now looking for a new venue. This will show parents how to protect their children from the left’s ideology and sexuality in schools.
