EcoHealth Alliance Inc. was awarded a $3 Million grant by the Department of Defense last month. This non-profit organization is alleged to have funneled millions of American taxpayer funds to China’s Wuhan laboratory, which was conducting research on bat virus infections.
USASpending.gov reports that EcoHealth received a $3 million grant over three years to reduce the risk of virus spillover from the Philippines. It began December 12, 2022.
After it was discovered that EcoHealth Alliance had used U.S. grant money for bat coronavirus research at Wuhan Institute of Virology, (WIV), in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak in 2021, EcoHealth Alliance was brought under investigation. Although the origin of the pandemic is unknown, Wuhan is thought to be ground zero.
The National Institutes of Health’s National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded the grant. Dr. Anthony Fauci was the previous leader of the NIAID. He has denied that the research involved “gain of functionality” — altering a virus in order to make it more deadly.
House Republicans are making COVID-19’s origins and potential role in EcoHealth and WIV one their top investigative priorities.
In November, Steve Scalise, House Majority Leader, told Breitbart News that Republicans would investigate whether EcoHealth Alliance and other companies used federal funds to support gain-of function research at the WIV.
