On Saturday, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, wrote a letter requesting the visitor logs for President Joe Biden’s Wilmington, Deleware residence. Biden’s residence is the location where several classified documents were discovered, as revealed in a Thursday statement by the President’s Special Counsel.
While some documents were kept in the garage and at least one in another room, others were stored in the Biden home. The first set of documents was found at the Penn Biden Center offices on November 2, 2022. The scandal was not made public until January 2023.
Comer wrote Ron Klain, Biden’s Chief of Staff, a letter asking for clarification about who had access to the sensitive materials.
It is alarming that classified documents were incorrectly stored at President Biden’s house for at least six years. It raises questions about access and who might have seen this classified information.
Comer spoke out about Biden’s mishandling of documents by the Oversight Committee. He stated that he was willing to issue subpoenas to the National Archives in order to comply with similar requests.
The Oversight Committee chairman also expressed concern about Biden’s lawyers and aides, who aren’t granted security clearances. Comer wrote that they appear to be looking for and accessing restricted documents.
White House staff can continue access to the White House residence in Wilmington, Delaware for classified documents.
This letter requests all communications regarding searches and identities from the aides involved.
All communications related to searches of President Biden’s house(s), or other locations by Biden–aides for classified documents, including but not limited to dates of searches and identity.
Comer gave Klain until January 30, 2023, to comply with his request.
