Angie Craig, Democrat (MN), was attacked in her Washington, DC apartment building on Thursday morning, her office confirmed.
Craig was attacked by an attacker in her building’s elevator at 7:30 a.m., the day after House Republicans voted against the District’s reduction in punishments for criminals.
Craig dialled 911, but the attacker fled the scene.
According to Nick Coe, her Chief of Staff, Craig was left with bruises.
It was also the day that Rep. James Comer (R-KY), passed a resolution to stop the District from implementing soft-on crime laws. The bill now goes to the Democrat Senate for its approval.
The District would like to lower the penalties for crimes and allow misdemeanor cases be tried by a juror.
Comer said about D.C.’s law, “These misguided attempts would allow crime to rampant and disenfranchise American Citizens in our nation’s capital.”
Rep. Byron Donalds (R.FL) says crime is rampant in the nation’s capital. Sexual abuse is up 117 per cent, carjackings up 86percent, property crime up 26percent, and homicides up 20%.
