Andrea Mitchell, MSNBC’s host, appeared to call out Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on Friday in order to raise money off the news that former President Trump was indicted.

On Thursday, Trump was indicted by the Manhattan grand jury. He is now the first ex- or current president of the United States to be indicted. Trump is accused of receiving hush money payments in the lead up to 2016’s presidential election. This could have potential implications for his run for 2024.

Mitchell discussed the controversial legal case and noted that many have questioned its legitimacy due to the partisan division over Trump.

“Has this criminal allegation or indictment become too political?” Mitchell stated that Donald Trump was raising, you know a fortune – more than a million dollars – million and a a half or more just on the threat to indictment.

“You know that a lot of politicians do this. Schiff was told by she that you are fundraising for it.

Schiff claimed that the matter is an issue of accountability and defended himself.

“Look, I think this is going to definitely be a political issue in terms defending the Rule of Law on one side and subverting it on the other. But the most important thing for me is that it is affirmation that no one should have the law above them, that all of us held to account, and that this person has escaped accountability for years and years,” said he. “And yes, so I’m going out to speak on it. It will be raised by other people.

He then claimed that this case was an example of “our democracy” and attacked the Republican opposition.

He stated that he would be retaliating against the House’s attempts to make Jim Jordan and Kevin McCarthy ill-advised by running interference and trying stop, impede, or discredit the investigation. “It’s an important and ongoing part of my work to defend democracy.”
