Montana Governor Set to Sign Bill Banning TikTok Downloads Completely

The Montana state legislature passed a bill to ban new downloads of TikTok in the state, and the Governor is expected to sign it.

The bill would ban the company’s operation in the state and block all new downloads, but it would not prevent those who already have the app downloaded from using it.

54 legislators voted for the bill and 43 were against it.

TikTok critics have raised concerns about Chinese communist spying issues after the Chinese government passed a new law that allows the government to collect data from companies to advance the interests of the country. Software experts also discovered that the application was designed to be intrusive in order for it to collect as much information as possible from users’ smartphones.

Montana is one of many states that have banned the use of TikTok for state-funded devices, which are used by government employees and contractors. However, the new Montana legislation will extend the ban to all users in the state.

Some business owners criticized the law, claiming that it would eliminate the marketing campaigns they had used on popular social media apps.

Some have said that banning TikTok could be considered a violation of the First Amendment’s right to free speech.

A spokesperson for TikTok hinted that the company will sue Montana-based companies to protect users’ rights to watch short and addictive dancing videos on their smartphones.

“The bill’s champions have admitted that they have no feasible plan for operationalizing this attempt to censor American voices and that the bill’s constitutionality will be decided by the courts,” said spokesperson Brooke Oberwetter.

She concluded, “We will fight to protect the rights of TikTok creators and users in Montana whose livelihoods and First Amendment are being threatened by this outrageous government overreach.”
