The National Republican Congressional Committee called on vulnerable House Democrats (Vulnerable House Democrats) to tell Joe Biden (R-CA), Speaker Kevin McCarthy, to negotiate a possible deal with McCarthy (R) to raise the debt limit.
Voters dislike Democrats who promise to do the right things in election years, but then remain silent when it is time for them to speak out. The Democrats are now paying for the runaway spending that occurred under their watch. House Democrats should take responsibility for the spending decisions they made by telling President Biden that he needs to mature and negotiate”, NRCC Communications Director Jack Pandol stated in a Friday statement.
The NRCC contacted 37 House Democrats who the House Republican Campaign arm had identified as possible pickups for the congressional elections of 2024. The NRCC warned that they would be held “accountable,” if they failed to ask Biden to engage in negotiations.
House Democrats are becoming increasingly concerned about Biden refusing to negotiate with McCarthy. Both leaders haven’t met in nearly three months.
Joe Manchin, D-WV senator who will be up for reelection 2024 criticized Biden for his “lack of leadership”. He praised McCarthy’s debt ceiling plan.
“I respect White House’s position. But not forever. Rep. Dean Phillips, D-MN, explained that the whole institution revolves around negotiation.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-FL, said: “I think the president and speaker should always speak.” Joe Biden’s history has shown that he is always willing to talk.
Negotiation is inevitable. We want to get away from crisis-driven legislation. Haley Stevens, a Democrat from Michigan, said: “I encourage continued negotiations.”
