NYC Subway Attack Survivor, Who Lost an Eye, Criticizes AOC Opposing Police Salary Increases

A woman who lost an eye in a brutal New York City subway attack last year blasted far-left U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s stance against cops getting raises, saying that officials must “put safety first.”

During an interview with “The Daily Show,” Cortez criticized New York City Mayor Eric Adams for giving NYPD officers a raise, the first raise they have received since 2017, the New York Post reported.

The congresswoman stated that “we are now at a stage where most officers are officially paid more than a school teacher with a Master’s degree who serves these same children involved in the same incidents.”

Elizabeth Gomes has a different opinion.

Waheed Foster (41), a homeless man with a long history of arrests for violence, allegedly slapped Gomes in a Queens metro station on Sept. 20, 2013. Fox News reported that Foster was indicted over the brutal attack which was captured on video surveillance.

Gomes, speaking on “Fox & Friends,” Thursday about victims of crime in New York City, said: “It is because we don’t have the right people around us who can take care of us if we need it.” “At the time I was running to the train station I didn’t think about calling a teacher, or a lifeguard at a swimming pool. I was thinking of calling the police.”

Gomes told Fox News that while it is important to ensure public safety, additional funding should go to teachers and police officers.

Gomes told the cable network that “we need both but safety comes first.” How can you get these kids to want to attend school if you do not make them safe? If anyone feels unsafe, they will not want to go. Do you want to fix these public places, like parks and pools? How would people go to a place without safety? “I believe that safety comes from police officers.”

She added, “Once you put safety first, everything else will go right after it. I cannot call a teacher if I need help. If a man is running me down, I cannot call a teacher. I’m going to have to call the police. I’m going to be praying for police, not a teacher.”

Gomes also claimed that her alleged assailant shouldn’t even have been released from jail due to his long, violent criminal history.

“He was a felon,” Gomes stated, “He had been in prison multiple times.” “He killed his foster grandmother when he was only 14, he should have been locked up for a long time.” “He shouldn’t have even been on the streets at all, with all of the felonies and cases that he had in his past.”
