Joe Manchin Indicates Possibly Leaving Democrat Party Before 2024

In his recent comments, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia sparked speculation about him leaving the Democrat Party before 2024. He spoke about having a strong relationship with No Labels.

The Democrat Senator praised his relationship with No Labels – the political group which has been working to allow voters in all 50 states to choose a third party candidate for the presidential election – and hinted at the possibility of a national run.

No Labels has been my home since December 2010. Manchin told The Hill that “it’s the only thing in town” that will bring Democrats and Republicans together.

Manchin said that “people are starving and starving to work with each other.” He also added that voters were sick of the “constant, daily routine” of fighting, arguing, and everyone being against one another.

Manchin, the moderate senator who is up for reelection this year in a deeply red state, has kept his plans for 2024’s election under wraps for quite some time. This has ultimately led to speculation as to whether he would run for reelection or a presidential run, or if he would run at all.

The West Virginia Senate race has already heated up, despite the fact that it left people guessing. Last week, Jim Justice (RWV) joined the race and Rep. Alex Mooney(RWV), both on the Republican side of the aisle, are fighting to unseat Manchin.

Manchin issued a statement shortly following Justice’s announcement, claiming that he was “laser focused on doing the work West Virginians voted me to do”, and “will be successful in any race”.

Manchin said on NBC’s Meet the Press last month that he wouldn’t make his decision “until the next year”, as his filing deadline isn’t until the middle January of the following year. Manchin announced his intention to run for reelection in the 2018 election four weeks after the year began.
