Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) said at a Select Committee Hearing on the Chinese Communist Party that the United States must open their eyes to the dangers posed by China.
Gallagher’s statement was made during the hearing on Wednesday, which focused on the strategic competition between CCP and the United States.
Gallagher stated, “We must remove the golden blindfolds to see the dangers in China.” “American companies shouldn’t be complicit with the CCP’s ongoing genocidal campaign.” A capitalist America should not be complicit in human rights abuses. “Investment managers, particularly U.S. Pension and Retirement Fund Stewards cannot ignore their fiduciary duty.”
Gallagher stated that “just in the last few months, CCP has criminalized routine due diligence. This is a mockery to the transparent disclosure system which underpins our capital market and undermines the rule of law.”
The hearing on Wednesday sought to hear from witnesses who could describe the “pervasive nature of CCP economic espionage” in the U.S.
In January, the House China Committee was established by a bipartisan vote that was overwhelming. The Select Committee on China will be responsible for reexamining the strategic competition between the United States and China.
Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker in January, said: “We have spent decades passing policies to welcome China into the international system.” In return, China exported oppression and anti-Americanism. “Today, China’s military and economic power are increasing at the expense and detriment of freedom and democracy around the world.”
McCarthy said that there is a ‘bipartisan’ consensus that the days of trusting a “communist China” are over.
The House approved the creation of the Committee by a vote of 365 to 65.
