Scientist Claims To Have Answer To Mystery Of Notorious Bermuda Triangle

A scientist from Australia claims to have solved the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. The triangle is famous for its urban myths and stories about mysterious ship and plane disappearances on the west coast of the North Atlantic.

This precarious stretch is located between Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. It’s prone to rapidly changing weather patterns and sea levels, and its navigational challenges have earned it the ominous name, Devil’s Triangle.

According to Popular Mechanics, Australian scientist Karl Kruszelnicki argues that there is no supernatural explanation for the stories surrounding the forbidding area, but instead a matter “probabilities”.

He told The Independent that “the number of [ships and planes] going missing in Bermuda Triangle is the exact same anywhere else in the world, on a percent basis,” in 2017.

Kruszelnicki reiterated his belief in 2022 and it was resurfaced this month. It noted that human error and bad weather conditions were likely behind all disappearances which have contributed to superstition surrounding the Bermuda Triangle. This includes the loss of Flight 19 from 1945.

Flight 19 was an unidentified group of five Navy Avenger planes that disappeared without a trace on December 5, 1945, while flying near the coast of Florida.

Kruszelnicki is not the first to make such claims.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association maintains Kruszelnicki’s position and wrote in a report in 2010 that “There is no proof that mysterious disappearances are more frequent in the Bermuda Triangle than any other large and well-traveled region of the ocean.”

NOAA noted that “the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Guard all contend that there is no supernatural explanation for disasters on the sea.” Their experience suggests that nature and human fallibility are more powerful than even the most improbable science fiction.

According to reports, Lloyd’s of London also maintains this position.
