Biden Energy Secretary Granholm Admits False Testimony About Owning Stocks

In a letter sent Friday, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm acknowledged that she had made a false claim when she told lawmakers recently she did not own individual stocks.

Granholm sold all of her stocks in 2021. However, in a letter sent to the leadership of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee she admitted that she still owned shares in six companies. Granholm, however, testified on April 20 under oath she had sold her entire stock of each company.

Granholm’s letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, stated that “as you are aware, I have divested myself of assets in 2021 as part the confirmation process before the Committee.” I did retain assets which were determined to be incompatible with my official duties by Government ethics officials.

“I misspoke to the Committee when I said I didn’t own individual stocks. I should have stated that I owned no conflicting stocks. To make my financial holdings in line with my testimony on May 18, 2023 I sold my remaining stocks, which included stock in six different companies. These assets were not considered conflicting, but she explained.

Granholm did not mention in her letter which companies owned her shares — or which she sold on May 18, but she promised to disclose this information in mid-June in her Annual Public Financial Disclosure Report.

Granholm also said that she found out on May 13 her husband Daniel Mulhern had shares worth $2,457.89 in Ford Motor Company. These shares were sold at the opening of the stock exchange on Monday, May 15, 2015.

Granholm admitted that she had not disclosed these shares in her previous Public Financial Disclosure Reports, and had believed incorrectly that her family’s divestiture from Ford was completed in early 2021. She said that the Ford stock her and her husband had in their retirement account was sold on March 22, 2020.

Granholm wrote in her letter: “As a civil servant, I am committed to upholding the highest ethical standards. I regret that I accidentally omitted my spouse’s Ford interest.” This is a promise I made to the President and, most importantly, to the American people.

She concluded, “My spouse has double-checked my financial assets and there were no other assets reported in my financial disclosure statement.”

Granholm was criticized by John Barrasso of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, R-Wyo. In response to Barrasso’s letter.

Barrasso told Fox News Digital that “Secretary Granholm misled the committee regarding her family’s holdings in stock.” “This follows her failure to adhere to basic ethics and disclosure laws. This is a disturbing pattern. “It is unacceptable.”

Granholm stated that she would disclose all her transactions in the letter on a Public Financial Disclosure Periodic Transaction Report (PFD-PTR) in July.

A spokesperson for the Energy Department told Fox News Digital that Granholm was committed to maintaining “the highest ethical standard.”

E&E News was the first to report on this letter.
