Man With Cerebral Palsy Trains For Ironman World Championship With Dad

A Rockford, Michigan athlete is inspiring others as he trains for the Ironman Championship 2024 in Kona, Hawaii with a special partner.

MLive.com reported that when Johnny Agar learned he would be able to take part in the highly anticipated event, his excitement was overwhelming.

“TeamAgar will return to Kona in the year 2024.” Agar said in a June 19 social media post: “Those are the words I’ve been waiting to share for 7 years, and I won’t get tired of them.”

His teammate who is also Johnny’s father was equally excited about the news. Jeff Agar, who was not a runner himself, and his son Johnny, a cerebral palsy child, loved taking part in races. They have continued training despite this.

According to Mayo Clinic’s website, cerebral palsy can affect a person’s posture, movement, and muscle tone.

In a video from 2017, Jeff Agar is seen swimming behind Johnny, while he pulls him in a boat. Johnny stated at the time that “we’re just competing together in sports as father and son.” It’s like a dream to be able to do this with your dad.

Johnny is a huge sports fan and studied sports management at college. He enjoyed the opportunity to be around inspiring athletes.

The Agar Family has competed in many half-triathlons. In 2016, they were asked to participate in the Ironman World Championships.

They were not able to complete the triathlon in the past, but they will have another chance to prove to the world that anything is possible if you work hard.

“I don’t do it because I enjoy it. It wasn’t a dream. This is Johnny’s dream. “I’m giving him the strength and legs to do it,” said his father in an interview conducted in November.

Johnny walked to the finish in Maryland on his sixth attempt at completing a full Ironman Triathlon.

The young man said to MLive.com: “I have always thanked my father for how he inspires and works hard to get me over the finish line.” You can thank someone so many times but it will mean nothing unless you follow through.

What makes it more meaningful?” Johnny continued, “If you act on your words and that is what I do every day.”
