According the WNBA Brittney Grinder was the victim of a “social-media figure and provocateur”, at the Dallas Airport on Saturday.
The WNBA has not specified the incident in question. However, Alex Stein, a social media personality, posted a snippet on Twitter of his encounter with Griner.
Stein asked Griner, as he walked with his team members in the airport, why she “hate[s]” and “still wants[s]] to boycott America.” ”
Stein had to leave the team because of security. Another member called him “weird”.

Griner was criticized for kneeling during the national anthem in the past, but changed her mind when she returned to the WNBA for this season. She stated that she (definitely) wanted to stand.
Griner stated after her return that “listening to our National Anthem made a big difference.” Griner said after her return: “Listening to our national anthem made a huge difference.”
Mercury is “reviewing” the incident
In a statement to the press, the team stated that “the health and safety of our players is our number one priority.” ”
The WNBA stated that it “worked with the Phoenix Mercury prior to the season” to ensure the safety of her travels. The WNBA said that “prior to the season, it worked with the Phoenix Mercury to ensure her travel safety.”
After losing 90-77 against the Wings, the Mercury dropped to 1-5 on the standings.
