DeSantis Campaign Shakeup: Staff Fired Amid Poll Woes and Fundraising Success

Published on

DeSantis’ campaign for president is stagnant and has been for the last few weeks. A recent shake-up in staff, including firings and restructurings, is attracting attention.

While some media outlets have referred to the DeSantis’ campaign as “cash-strapped”, the fundraising figures indicate that the move may not be a reaction to a lack of money, but rather a pivot or re-allocation. DeSantis raised more than former president Donald Trump, who only raised $ 17.7 million in the second quarter.

Super PACs that support DeSantis have roughly $130,000,000. DeSantis supporters and donors are concerned about whether he will be able to start breaking through his stagnant figures.

What it means: For the first time in mid-May, the average polling of RCP shows that Republican support for DeSantis is below 20%. After months of declining support for the popular GOP governor, there have been rumors that he is headed to a Scott Walker-style flameout.

Bloomberg reports that DeSantis’ team tried to reassure donors yesterday about the current state of the race in Tallahassee. Officials emphasized the fact that presidential campaigns experience growing pains.

A campaign internal evaluation revealed that the DeSantis team had hired too many employees too soon in the beginning. The Q2 results are positive, but $3 million is earmarked specifically for the general elections, and the majority of the money comes from large donors, not small donors.

This change of staff comes at a time when the candidate has also shifted his focus to a “Great American Comeback”, rather than the culture war issues for which his campaign was most well-known. This shift in tone is due to DeSantis appearing to have reached his limit in the polls, and he’s looking for ways to reduce Trump’s lead.

His message on issues other than a culture war, which inspired his rise, has failed to reach American voters.

CNN announced on the weekend that the Florida Governor will also be sitting down with Jake Tapper for an interview today.

CNN announced on Sunday that Ron DeSantis, Republican presidential candidate and Jake Tapper of CNN will be interviewing him exclusively on Tuesday.

As the Florida governor travels across the country for his presidential bid, Tapper will talk to DeSantis following a campaign event in Columbia, South Carolina. The interview will air on “The Lead” on Tuesday, July 18, at 4 p.m. ET.

DeSantis wants to get past Trump and the other candidates in the Republican primaries while fending off the attacks of the others. The campaign has been very vocal in its support for the governor.

Andrew Romeo, DeSantis’ campaign spokesperson, said that “defeating Joe Biden with the $72million behind him requires a nimble campaign driven by the candidate. We are building a campaign to go the full distance.”

DeSantis will have to show that he is a nimble and able candidate. This reset may be the key to the campaign’s future.
