Social media users responded with shock and ridicule to a video clip in which President Biden appeared to forget what he was supposed to do at the official Veterans Day Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, on Saturday.
Users on X ripped into Biden, accusing him of freezing during the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They also complained that he had to be told where to stand by U.S. military personnel attending the solemn memorial.
One person called it “so embarrassing.”
The video shows Biden placing the wreath before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier while Vice President Kamala Harris, representatives of the U.S. Armed Forces, and a large group of civilian guests watched.
The wreath was given to him by a U.S. Army soldier. He then placed it on the stand in front of the tomb. Biden hesitated as he turned away from the wreath, not knowing where to go. He turned to face the soldier.
Biden waited until the service member gave him a cue or signal as to where he should go next. The service member extended his arm and directed the president to return to line with the vice president during the remainder of the ceremony.
X users were amused by the clumsy dance after a clip was shared on the RNC Research Twitter account. The caption added by the account was “Biden gets confused (again)”.
Tyler Zed, a YouTuber and podcaster, said: “Our enemies must have their feet shaking.”
Michael Brown, a talk radio host, slammed Biden’s handlers, claiming that they allowed the president to appear confused during the ceremony. He said, “Time to leave.” At such a solemn event, it’s pathetic. This is not something to laugh at. We should instead recognize that the CnC is not capable of being the CnC. Someone needs to stop this madness. Look to you, @FLOTUS. Do you love him? “Take him home.”
Jake Schneider, the GOP Rapid Response Director, said: “This is so embarrassing.”
Schneider also added “Joe Roomba is back at it,” and tagged Shane Gillis who had originally joked about Biden’s movements resembling those of a Roomba – a self-guided robot vacuum.
