A former member of the Ghana national soccer team died Saturday during a game.
Raphael Dwamena, a player for KF Egnatia of the Albanian Super League, collapsed in the 24th minute of a match with Partizani.
Dwamena is seen in the footage attempting to run but falling forward.
In a matter of seconds, the players rushed to him.
Dwamena was rolled onto his back by teammates, and a player appeared to have administered CPR. A rapid ambulance arrived on the scene.
The Albanian Football Federation confirmed Dwamena had “unfortunately died,” while the Ghana Football Association stated that he “suffered from a heart attack.”
The Ghana Football Association expressed its sadness at the news of Raphael Dwamena’s death and sent their deepest condolences in this time of grief to his family.
The association said, “Our thoughts are also with Raphael Dwamena’s family at this difficult moment,” via the New York Post. “Raphael represented Ghana with all his heart and paid his dues for the country up until his untimely death. We will always miss his dedication to National Coarse. “Rest In Peace, Raphael.”
The match was stopped with a score of 1-1. Dwamena, the leading goal scorer in the league with nine goals, entered the match.
According to local media, Dwamena had heart problems in 2021 and was hospitalized during another match.
Dwamena played nine times for the Ghana national team between 2017 and 2018.
