Authorities say it wasn’t a policeman who attacked the man. It was a homeless Californian woman.

Los Angeles Police Department reports that Michael Latt (33), a Hollywood consultant and activist who promoted social justice, died on Monday. Jameelah E. Michl, 36, is accused of breaking into his house and shooting him in the face.

It was not immediately apparent what the motive of the incident was.

She broke into Latt’s $800,000.00 one-bedroom apartment located in Mid-Wilshire, east of Beverly Hills at around 6 pm on Monday.

Police said that paramedics transported Latt to an adjacent hospital but he later died of his injuries. Michl was arrested at the scene, and her vehicle was impounded.

Latt served as the chief executive officer and chief financial of Lead With Love, a marketing company he founded. His stated goal was “to dedicate his career to serving, supporting influential artists and women of color, and using storytelling, art, and more to bring lasting change, hope, and inspiration to communities.”

According to Lead With Love, Latt has worked on films such as “Fruitvale Station,” which is about the Oakland police shooting that killed Oscar Grant, in 2009, and “Till,” the biographical film about Emmett Till’s mother.

Latt has posted on Instagram about his Black Lives Matter protests with Common in response to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Common. He has also posted to support Democratic candidates including Democratic Georgia Senators. Jon Ossoff, Raphael Warnock.

In June 2022, he wrote: “Not enough has changed since the 2020 Uprising.” “We will continue to fight against police violence and White supremacy in this country until justice is achieved.”

Latt’s mom, Sundance Institute executive Michelle Satter wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that her son had “fallen victim to a horrific act of violence.”

Latt is pictured on his website with public figures such as the actor and rapper Common, Georgia progressive Stacey Abrams, and U.S. Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.).

Latt is from a Hollywood family with a lot of connections. According to Deadline, Satter is a founding Director at the Sundance Institute. His father, David Latt is a movie Producer, and his brother, the head of talent for CAA.

Michl was held on $3 million bail for charges of murdering, burglarizing, and using a firearm in an unlawful manner.

Avarie Shevin, a neighbor of Latt’s, told the local station KTLA that he shared an apartment with Latt and his fiancee as well as their two pets – a cat and a pup.

She told the station, “I don’t know what happened to cause him to be killed by a gunshot.” “I can’t believe that he is gone. I keep picturing his facial expression.”

Hannah Lovingood’s fiancée, Latt, wrote about the ordeal on her Instagram account.

“My entire life has changed in a blink of an eye,” she wrote. “My love has been taken from me so tragically. My best friend, confidant, fiancé. My love.”
