Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell confirms that he will not be attending the closed-door December 13 deposition, despite having been subpoenaed.
Lowell sent Comer a letter on Wednesday, stating that Hunter Biden would only be available to testify in a public hearing environment.
Lowell wrote: “Mr. Biden offered to appear in a hearing at the date reserved by you on December 13, 2023, or any other date within this month to answer questions pertinent to the topic.”
Lowell stated that “he made this decision because he has seen the Committee manipulate and even distort the facts in closed-door sessions, and misinform Americans. A hearing would ensure transparency and the truth of these proceedings.” We look forward to figuring out the schedule.”
Hunter and his lawyers seem to believe that they can dictate the terms of the process.
But House Oversight Chair James Comer (R – KY) and Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R – OH) don’t like it.
Comer and Jordan wrote a response to Lowell’s letter. The letter is short, sweet, and straight to the point.
We issued subpoenas on November 8, 2023, to Robert Hunter Biden for a December 13, 2023 deposition. Your letters of November 28, 2023, and December 6, 2023, regarding the subpoenas for depositions were received by us. Contrary to what you claim in your letter there is no choice for Mr. Biden; the subpoenas force him to appear at a deposition for the 13th of December. The Committees will begin contempt proceedings if Mr. Biden fails to appear at his deposition scheduled for December 13, 2023.
Bluff called. Hunter, your move.
If I was a gambler, I would bet that Hunter would not appear for his deposition on Wednesday the 13th. I think he’ll drag out this matter as long as he can. Comer and Jordan deserve praise for their steadfastness in this matter. We hope this continues.
