Flashback to the years 2019 and 2020, when Joe Biden said that illegals could enter the country when he became president. He told those who came to the United States looking for asylum that “we should absorb” them.
According to a recent Axios report:
He slammed his team which included Homeland Security advisor Liz Sherwood Randall, then-Deputy Chief Of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon, and other immigration officials. He asked for obscure immigration data and yelled at his staff when they didn’t have it.
According to sources both inside and outside the government, this issue was treated as a “hot button”.
In interviews, the idea that nobody wanted to “own” it was repeatedly mentioned. The problem demanded a coordinated and robust response from several levels within the federal government.
Former Biden Administration senior officials said Kamala had not dealt effectively with the border crisis.
She has been ineffective at best, and sporadic and unengaged at worst. She missed an opportunity and didn’t take it.
Many people saw that coming. Although she’s been a terrible Vice President, she couldn’t handle the border issues. After what happened during the Democrat Primary and Jill making sure that she didn’t want Harris to run as Biden’s running mate due to Harris “attacking” Biden and essentially calling Biden a racist, she seemed to be predestined to fail on the border issue.
Even by Biden’s standards, this part of the story is surprising. Axios reports that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan handed Sherwood Randall the majority of his border portfolio, despite Sherwood Randall having little experience in this area.
According to a source familiar with her request, her lack of experience was evident when she requested a memo from an official in her team explaining the differences between asylum seekers and refugees.
This is a term that’s introduced to students in the middle school and latest high school social studies class. Asylum seekers, or refugees, are people who have fled their country of origin and ask another country for protection while they wait to see if that country will allow them to stay. Refugees are people who have been granted permission to remain in another country because of danger in their own country.
It is shocking that any member of the Biden Administration, regardless of their role, doesn’t know what immigration terms are.
Axios explains the causes of internal turmoil.
Biden halted kicking out asylum-seekers under Trump’s program “Remain in Mexico”, but continued for years to use Title 42 restrictions, which were imposed during the pandemic era to send asylum-seekers back to Mexico.
After extending temporary protections to Venezuelans living in the U.S., the administration announced that it would deport Venezuelans – for the first time in years.
Biden’s team has stopped detaining undocumented families at U.S. Detention Centers, a practice that was used under Presidents Bush and Obama. Instead, they are monitoring them using ankle bracelets or other technology.
Biden then considered resuming the detention program as conditions worsened.
It just shows that a successful policy like “Remain in Mexico” was reversed because of the disdain they have for former President Trump.
The border and illegal immigration will play a major role in the 2024 elections after the House GOP voted on Tuesday to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas. This is because the Biden Administration has been struggling to deal with the issue ever since the President invited these migrants to America in the year 2021.
