According to the Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department, a small plane crashed Thursday night into a mobile home park in Clearwater.
Clearwater Fire Chief Scott Ehlers told a Thursday night press conference that the plane had hit a mobile home and caused the fires to spread to another three homes.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a Beechcraft Bonanza V35 crashed into Bayside Waters, formerly Japanese Gardens, located on U.S. 19 just south of Clearwater Mall.
Officials said that the call was received at 7:08 pm on Thursday.
Officials from the FAA confirmed to the outlet the pilot reported an engine failure.
“We are on the scene of a small aircraft crash in a mobile home community south of Clearwater Mall. There are multiple mobile homes on fire. Firefighters from different jurisdictions are at the scene,” wrote fire officials on X, formerly Twitter.
A video from the scene shows an enormous fireball erupting out of the park.
Ehlers stated that firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.
Ehlers stated that it was unclear how many injured people were on the ground, or how many passengers were aboard the plane.
