The White House is unhappy with recent media coverage of Joe Biden.
CNN reported that a White House Counsel’s Office spokesperson, Ian Sams sent a letter this week to the White House Correspondents Association, criticizing their coverage of the Special Counsel Robert Hur report on Joe Biden’s handling of classified materials.
The report, released last week, found that Biden was likely guilty of a crime for handling classified material, but his age, failing health, and memory meant that prosecution would not serve the public’s interest. Biden’s inability to remember when his son Beau died was one of its conclusions. This indicated a decline in Biden’s mental capacity.
Sams wrote in his letter to WHCA that the complexity and length of the report made it difficult to cover. The letter also criticizes Hur for his “wrong, inappropriate and personal comments that have distracted attention from the substance.”
Sams wrote, “But these facts highlight the importance of patient and careful coverage.” “Instead, several outlets have reported striking errors that misrepresent the report’s conclusions about the President. And reporters in the White House Briefing Room asked questions with false content or based on false premises.”
CNN reported that the White House also had a private argument with reporters about the tone of the coverage, but “limited success.”

Sams’s letter is another effort by White House officials to counter the narratives in the press about this report. Sams took questions from reporters about Hur’s Report on Friday. CNN learned that officials from the White House, the President’s personal Counsel, and other government officials have sparred behind closed doors with journalists about their coverage.

The White House’s aggressive defense reflects a growing awareness within Biden-land about the damage caused by Hur’s report. Biden’s mental acuity and age have become hotly debated topics because of Hur’s remarks. But the idea that Biden willfully mishandled secrets has also permeated the public consciousness. It won’t be easy to reverse this trend.
The White House will not convince news outlets to retract their previous coverage. It hopes to convince outlets to cover the story more carefully and with nuance in the future.
The White House wants the liberal media to stop discussing Biden’s declining state of health, and any indications that Biden may be suffering from dementia or a degenerative illness.
Unfortunately, these questions will not go away. Biden may have the nomination locked up, but a growing number of left-wing voices are worried about his ability to defeat Donald Trump while serving a second term.
