Mitt Romney’s Interference: Is Katie Britt’s Shot at Trump’s VP Pick Dashed?

Published on

Mitt Romney, a Utah senator, weighed in on Joe Biden’s State of the Union address this week. His implicit endorsement may have an impact on who Donald Trump chooses as his Vice-Presidential nominee.

Romney posted on the X Platform on Sunday and suggested that the reaction of liberals to Senator Katie Britt of Alabama’s State of the Union response was evidence that they fear her more than any other candidate.

He wrote: “Positively, Biden’s delivery was out of character, and over the top.” “Katie Britt’s too.” “The media’s overreaction tells us who the liberals most fear for a VP nomination.”

It is unclear what Romney intended to achieve by writing this blog post, especially given his lack of popularity among large swathes of the Republican base. Mitt Romney’s support is actively avoided by many conservatives.

Romney’s apparent endorsement is even more bizarre because he has stated that he won’t support Donald Trump under any circumstance and has flirted even with the idea of joining the No Labels ticket.

In an interview last week with CNN, Romney stated that he “absolutely” would not vote for Trump instead of Biden.

On foreign policy, I disagree with Donald Trump, but I agree with most of his policies. There’s a second dimension to policy, and that is character.

A president with such a lack of character could have a huge impact on America’s character. For me, this is the most important consideration.

Britt was also widely ridiculed for her dramatic response to Joe Biden’s speech. She was criticized for referring to a survivor of human and sex slavery who had been a victim before Joe Biden became vice president.

She explained:

When I took office for the first time, I tried something new. I went to Del Rio, Texas to speak to a woman. She shared her story. She was sex-trafficked by cartels since she was 12 years old. She did not only tell me that she had been raped daily, but also how many times she was raped each day.

They put her in a shoebox-sized room on a bed and sent men back and forth through the door for hours. This would not be acceptable in a country of the third world. It’s time to act like we are in the United States of America. The border crisis that President Biden is facing is a scandal. It’s despicable. It’s almost completely preventable.

Britt’s reference was understood to be Karla Jacinto, a Mexican woman who suffered human trafficking between 2004 and 2008 Britt’s spokesman insisted “the story Senator Britt gave was 100% accurate” but refused to confirm whether she meant Jacinto.
