Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor Under Fire Again in Fulton County’s Trump Case

Published on

Many times, we’ve heard that Democrats using lawfare against Donald Trump will not stop. Conventional wisdom holds that Trump is only the tip of the Iceberg and that other conservatives will follow.

Georgia is experiencing this phenomenon. Let’s look back at July 2022 to get a sense of context. Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, began a wasteful investigation against Donald Trump. She targeted Burt Jones who was then running for lieutenant Governor.

Then, I wrote: “Willis wanted him subpoenaed to ask about his involvement as part of an alternative slate of electors that would have selected Trump as Georgia’s presidential election winner.” It is painfully evident that Jones’s portrayal as an insurrectionist was a deliberate attempt. One of the first sentences of his Wikipedia page reads: “He was involved with attempts to overturn the 2020 United States Presidential Election.”

Robert McBurney, Chief Judge, noticed a tiny problem: Willis actively campaigned for Charlie Bailey, Jones’ opponent in the lieutenant governor’s race. Bailey was also dating Willis’ spokesperson and married her later. McBurney wasn’t having it and barred Willis, due to his conflict of interest, from investigating Jones. The judge did leave the door open to another prosecutor investigating Jones.

Jones has been lieutenant governor for nearly two years. According to the Associated Press, the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia chose to investigate Jones. Pete Skandalakis chose to investigate himself rather than appoint a special prosecutor.

The AP reports that Jones was among 16 Republicans in Georgia who signed a document stating Trump won the state and declaring them to be the ‘duly-elected and qualified’ electors, even though Democrat Joe Biden was declared the winner of the state. Jones claims that he, along with the other alternate electors, signed the certificate so they would be prepared in case Trump won his court challenge of the election.

Skandalakis, a veteran prosecutor appointed by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr to prosecute police officers who shot and killed Rayshardbrooks in the parking lot at an Atlanta Wendy’s 2022. Later, he dropped charges against the officers. Will he do so for Jones? He has not made any comment about Jones’ case.

Jones stated in a press release that she was “happy to see the process moving forward” and looked forward to the chance to put this charade to rest. “Fani Willis, as is her habit, has mocked this legal process. I am looking forward to a swift resolution and moving on with the business of Georgia.”

WSB TV reports that Willis’ office has no comment on the Jones case.

Watch to see if Skandalakis drags Jones through the dirt the same way Willis did with Trump and co-defendants. Jones is one of Georgia’s brightest young conservative leaders. Let’s hope Skandalakis does the right thing by letting Jones serve the people in Georgia.

The political persecution of Donald Trump and his prosecution in Fulton County, as well as the other absurd trials, is nothing less than political persecution. The left is determined to stop Trump from beating Joe Biden by 2024.
