Newsom’s Neglect: Homelessness Crisis Escalates with San Diego Mayor Gloria’s Complicity

California’s homeless problem is getting worse. Recent reports on San Diego’s conditions revealed that the number of homeless people is still on the rise, despite the Golden State government’s promises to tackle the problem.

Even worse, the officials have difficulty convincing people living on the streets to accept help:

In January, the Point-in-Time Census of San Diego’s Homeless Population revealed a dramatic increase in the number North County residents without housing.

Dramatic increases occurred in San Marcos, which saw a 1,650% increase (from two to 35), Vista (from 88 to 170), Carlsbad (from 60 to 112), and Encinitas (from 73 to 123).

Escondido and Oceanside saw increases in unhoused people, although the percentages were lower. Poway, Fallbrook and Ramona saw decreases but only 23 less unhoused people between the three cities.

John Franklin, the mayor of Vista, told reporters: “I don’t believe we are seeing any success.” The problem is getting worse.

The mayor spoke about the Buena Vista Navigator Center, a shelter that provides care to residents while they transition into more permanent housing. The city has struggled to convince homeless people to move into this shelter.

Franklin believes the bigger problem is convincing the vast majority of people living on the streets to accept help from a shelter. Franklin claims that 94% of Vista residents who are chronically homeless have refused to enter the shelter.

Franklin stated that he had asked some of the people 20 times. We’ve asked if they would accept a warm, safe bed, three meals a week, a hot bath, and clean clothes. Unfortunately, due to mental illness and drug addiction, we do not want to come.”

The announcement comes shortly after California Gov. Gavin Newsom has announced that the state will be expanding its oversight of spending for the homelessness crisis. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria – one of Newsom’s most loyal sycophants – praised the decision last month in a press release.

“The state is experiencing a growing crisis of homelessness, so I am glad to see that the Governor is making more efforts to track expenditures to ensure they are producing results. I share his concern about the haphazard spending of local governments on duplicate homeless programs, which don’t increase bed capacity.

California’s mayors of large cities are at the forefront in tackling homelessness and putting this money to work. State funding has been used to increase shelter and housing capacity in order to connect more people to care and get them off the street. We are committed to doing more in partnership with the federal, state, and county governments as well as the private sector.

We welcome accountability in order to ensure that all participants working together to solve this complex problem.

Even NBA legend Bill Walton who died recently criticized Mayor Gloria 2022 because of the homeless issue in San Diego.

We need a new leader. Todd Gloria must step down. Todd Gloria ran for his position on the promise that, if elected, he would solve the homelessness, humanitarian crisis, and public-health crisis in our once great City. Todd Gloria made the situation worse. He’s not up to it. He doesn’t know how to perform the task. He doesn’t want to do it. Todd Gloria’s entire career has been a failure on this issue. These crises require a leader. A leader who will insist that the homeless are constantly engaged, insist on rehabilitation and enforce the rules of society.

When historians reflect on the short and failed tenure of Todd Gloria as our once great City crumbles, dissolves, devolves they will conclude, rightly, that Todd Gloria had a chance. He had the chance to put things right. He had the chance to make things right. He had the opportunity. He was in a position of power. He was a genius. Todd Gloria chose to do nothing. Todd Gloria chose to do nothing.

Watch:

Newsom has been criticized on numerous occasions for failing to address the growing problem of homelessness in California. He was unable to answer questions earlier this month about his plans for handling the issue. This problem doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon under his leadership.
