Joe Biden sat for another pre-taped, friendly interview. This time he spoke to Lester Holt from NBC News. Some clips, released on Monday, showed the president’s less-than-optimal response to Donald Trump’s attempted assassination.
Several more issues were revealed after the remainder of the interview was released. Biden does not know who his Secret Service director is, even though a gunman almost blew off the head of a former President.

HOLT: Can you accept that, at least in public, you have yet to hear from the director of the Secret Service?
BIDEN: Oh I’ve heard him. I’ve…(inaudible)
HOLT: Did you hear from her in public?
BIDEN: I have sat in the Situation Room downstairs with the Secret Service and FBI. Also, Homeland Security, and National Security agencies.
Joe Biden’s Secret Service Director is a female. Holt did not mention that a situation room meeting isn’t “public” as he had insisted on several occasions. It is not acceptable to dismiss the president’s mistake of calling her “him”. It’s not unusual for someone to forget who his various subordinates are, including members of his cabinet. Biden’s inability to identify the head of his Secret Service is a cause for concern.
Who is running the White House if the president is so aloof? You could be forgiven if you assumed Jill Biden was behind Kimberly Cheatle’s appointment as Secret Service chief.
Biden’s ability to anger easily was also evident in the interview. He has lost his ability to control himself.

BIDEN: No.
NBC: Are you seeing what they saw? Moments of confusion.
BIDEN (creepy whisper): Why don’t you guys ever talk about Trump? Where are ya!?

BIDEN: Lester, look. Why don’t any of you ever bring up the 18-28 lies that he told? What’s your position on this? Why don’t you ever bring this up in the media? BIDEN: I would have to see it, I was there I did not have to watch it. I was there. Why, by the way? Do the media not talk about the many lies that have been told? I’ve never heard of that.
HOLT: Many of the topics that were raised during this debate have been covered in our reports.
BIDEN: No, you haven’t. No, you haven’t. God loves ya.
HOLT: Okay.
It’s a strategy to admit that you didn’t see the worst performance of your career, and that’s a lot. Inaction is also the result of a person who has lost touch with reality. Biden believes that the world is out to get him, even if a majority of the press are compliant. He cannot fathom the fact that he created his current situation. This is why he tries to divert and lash out in that exchange.
I will point out that NBC News released a fact-check addressing certain things Trump said during this debate. Biden’s claim, that neither NBC News nor any other media outlet attacked the former President post-debate, is simply delusional.
The president’s anger did not subside during the entire interview. Biden continued to rant even as Holt tried to end the interview politely.

Biden’s handlers are unable to trust him publicly at this time. They do not have control over the emotions of the president, even though they are in charge of the White House. One of the signs of senility, however, is the inability to control one’s anger, especially when it’s inappropriate or unhelpful. This interview was just another disaster in a long line of others. This made Biden appear defensive and weak. He is probably both of these things. I doubt it will help him to turn around his stumbling campaign.
