The Republican National Convention in Milwaukee has had no shortage of speakers, and certainly no shortage of Trumps. Lara Trump addressed the convention Tuesday night. She is Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law. Don Jr., the oldest son, spoke on Wednesday night, but his daughter Kai, 17, stole some of his thunder.
Franklin Graham’s prayer and moving remarks preceded Eric Trump’s speech on Thursday night. Eric Trump began his speech by reflecting on the announcement made eight years earlier to the family that he had made a choice that would change their lives forever.
Eric describes his father as having “stepped into the arena to fight for America’s soul.” He answered the call of service to our nation. He did it out of love for his country and a “deep concern for America’s future.”
Trump warned that his family would be the target of vicious attacks. Eric pointed out wryly that this was a grave understatement.
Eric said of his father: “He has shown unwavering determination and courage, not only in public but also in private conversations with me and my family.”
Eric described the first presidency of his father — one which “restored a voice and hope to millions of Americans who were ignored” as well as one that restored “the American Dream.” He listed all the accomplishments that Trump has made during his presidency.
Eric said that the swamp is afraid of Trump and that they have done all they can to keep Trump away from the American public. He added, “They failed and will not win.”
Eric said of his father: “He’s not a danger to democracy.” He is a danger to those who hate our republic.
Eric addressed Americans of all backgrounds, Americans who were struggling and discouraged. He apologized to each group. “I’m sorry. ….Your Government can do much better than this — and will…I’m sorry. “That man over there will fix it.”
Eric reiterated that Trump’s “retribution will be successful, predicting: The Swamp will drain. America will be respected. Our cities will be secure. Our streets will be cleaned… The border will once more be secured. Peace will be restored. “We will prosper.”
Eric described his dad as “a person who believed in America’s promise when others turned their backs”. A man who survived a bullet intended to eliminate him from the future of our family and our future,” Eric said, adding that “never have I felt more proud to call myself a Trump.” Never before have I felt more proud of standing by my father.
Eric became emotional when he spoke of his family’s response to the attempted assassination.
.@EricTrump: Dad — five days ago — Lara, Luke, Carolina, and I held our breath as we saw blood pour across your face. By the grace of God, divine intervention, and your guardian angels above — you survived. pic.twitter.com/OdrKkHLB0M

Five days ago, Lara and Carolina held their breath when we saw the blood pouring down your face. You survived by the grace of God and divine intervention. Your guardian angels were also there to help you. You are the most courageous fighter I’ve ever seen. You. You are strong and full of life… Your conviction to fight against wrong and for right is next level. Your strength was visible to the whole world as you stood.
Eric finished by telling his father how much he loved and appreciated him.
