Resurfaced Clip of Doug Burgum on Ukraine Sparks Debate Over VP Candidacy

Published on

Burgum, a former North Dakota governor and presidential candidate, is considered one of the leading candidates to be Donald Trump’s running mate. However, a video clip that resurfaced by X should stop any speculation about Burgum becoming Vice President, at least until he explains his foreign policy stances in greater detail.

Burgum said that the “war with Russia is a reality” in the video that resurfaced recently on X.

We are in a Cold War with China and we are at war with Russia. We haven’t yet sent troops. We are sending money, materials, and advisors.

Burgum makes a great choice from a business perspective. Burgum seemed to take China’s threats seriously during his campaign for president, which is important. However, suggesting that America has already declared war on Russia, after saying that our country had sent advisors, funding, and material but not troops, is a big red flag.

Burgum said the following during the interview:

It’s the idea that you can just say: “Wow, I have a deal for you. Send a little money and no troops to destroy your competitors.” Two years ago we considered Russia to be a rival superpower. But little Ukraine was able to take away a large chunk of its capability. I wouldn’t call it irresponsible; I would call it a bargain.

Burgum is well aware that America faces a $34.3 Trillion national debt because of uncontrolled spending. The United States already provided $113.4 billion for emergency funding.

He was asked: Do you support additional funding for Ukraine in the most direct terms?

Burgum replied, saying:

I am in favor of making sure that Putin doesn’t win the Ukraine war because we need to understand that as a country — not Republicans nor Democrats — we are responsible for driving Russia into China. Russia has become China’s discount gasoline station, and if we fail to defeat Putin, then it is like giving another victory to China. You cannot say that China is our existential danger, but we should not send money to Ukraine. Russia and China have a strong connection. Then you add North Korea which has been meeting with both China and Russia. North Korea is supplying weapons to Russia.

Peace through strength was the motto of the Trump administration. No new wars were started. It is the last thing that the Trump administration needs is someone who says we should keep funding Ukraine indefinitely, or even suggest sending our troops against Russia – or any other country – and risking our soldiers’ lives.
