Simone Biles Drops R-Rated Team Nickname for USA Gymnastics After Gold Win

The United States women’s gymnastics team won gold in the final team competition in Paris on Tuesday. A celebration followed when they saw Simone Biles’ 14.666 score for her floor routine.

Team USA, with gold in their hands, has adopted the same nickname as all of the great teams from the past. But this one is different. Biles announced Tuesday’s competition at the Paris Olympics.

The Fierce 5 won the gold at the London 2012 Games. In 2016, the Final Five competed in Rio de Janeiro, and the Fighting Four took place in Tokyo.

Aly Raisman – a gold medalist from the 2012 and 2016 Olympic teams – asked Team USA, during a press conference after the competition, what it was called this year.

Biles said initially, “I won’t say it,” adding even more intrigue.

After being told to abbreviate the name, Biles began saying “F-A” before stopping.

Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and Biles consulted each other before Biles revealed the name.

Biles told the audience to “f around and find out” as they laughed.

This group is known for its unquestionable tenacity.

Biles’ 14.666-point floor routine was not even her best apparatus. She ended with a 14.900 on the vault. Jade Carey posted a score of 14.800 in the vault event, while Chiles scored a score of 14.400.

Biles, Chiles, and Lee all had outstanding performances in the rest of the competition. Biles posted a 14.400 on the uneven bar and Lee posted a 14.366, while Biles was able to post a 14.400 on the balance beam.

As a whole, the U.S. scored 171.296. This was five points more than Italy (165.494), which took silver. Brazil finished third with 164.497.
