Kari Lake, the Republican nominee for Arizona’s Senate, won Tuesday night. She will now face a fierce race in November against Rep. Ruben Galego, D.-Ariz.
Lake beat out Sheriff Mark Lamb of Pinal County Arizona for the nomination.
Gallego also won the Democratic nomination for the Senate, securing Sinema’s successor.
Lake ran for governor in 2022 but lost to now-Gov. Katie Hobbs, D-Ariz. Lake worked as a newscaster for a local Arizona TV station for 27 years before her gubernatorial campaign.
Lake contested the results after her loss in the gubernatorial elections. She continues to claim that there were major irregularities in the 2020 and 2022 elections, echoing similar claims made by former President Trump and many of his supporters. This concern led the Republican National Committee to devote significant time and resources to efforts to ensure election integrity.
Lamb has served as Pinal County Sheriff since being elected to the position in 2017. In 2020, during the COVID-19 epidemic, he rose to prominence when he refused a Republican Governor’s order to stay at home. Doug Ducey.
According to the Associated Press, he stated at the time “unfortunately, we’re here but I have to make a statement for the people and freedom.” “I do not want to fine, cite, or arrest people who are in the wrong.”
The Arizona pandemic order carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500 for those who violate it.
Lake’s 2022 campaign had already given her a well-known name. She also had the support of numerous Republican legislators and Trump.
Gallego was the only candidate in the Democratic Primary race after Sinema decided to leave the Democratic Party.
Gallego and Lake are now set to face off at the general elections on November 5.
