According to sources close to Sen. John Fetterman, he expressed his concern that Kamala Harris would select Pennsylvania Governor. Josh Shapiro is her running mate.

Several of Fetterman’s closest aides told Politico that they had reached out to Harris’ campaign to voice some of the senator’s concerns over her choice of Shapiro.

Harris’s team was told by Fetterman’s advisors that Harris believes Shapiro has a focus on himself that is too intense. His reservations about Shapiro are a reflection of a long-running competition between two ambitious Democrats who have both risen in parallel tracks to power in a crucial state,” reported Politico.

Shapiro was immediately put at the top of the list of potential running mates when President Biden endorsed Harris. This was due to both his politically moderate image and his location in Pennsylvania, a crucial state. According to Fetterman’s aides, the senator had a disagreement with Shapiro when they both served on Pennsylvania’s Board of Pardons. Per Politico:

Fetterman wanted to revive the institution and give second chances to certain convicts. Shapiro took a more lenient stance, saying that while he supported criminal justice reform, the commutation process was not the right place to make “structural” improvements. Fetterman and Shapiro were particularly at odds over the fates of Lee and Dennis Horton. The brothers had been convicted for a deadly shooting and robbery that occurred in 1993, but they maintained their innocence throughout.

A spokesperson for Fetterman declined to comment, but Shapiro’s spokesperson defended Shapiro’s work at the Board of Pardons.

He said that “the governor evaluates each pardon case on its own merits. During his tenure as attorney general, the governor approved more pardons than his predecessors combined over the past 25 years.” “He’s proud of his track record in delivering criminal justice reform and making Pennsylvania communities safer,” he said.

Josh Shapiro has been targeted by the far-left wing in the Democrat Party for his pro-Israel stances. Shapiro was recently criticized for an anti-Palestinian article he wrote in 1992.

The report stated that Shapiro revealed that as a teenager he had served in the Israeli army. He also said that Palestinians are “too war-minded” to be able to establish a peaceful homeland.
